April is currently showing its best side with textbook weather changes. But we’ve also had a lot of sun in the last few weeks. I’m not complaining. On one such sunny day, I cycled with friends from Lichterfelde to Diedersdorf Castle.
We start at the Osdorfer Strasse S-Bahn station. Leave the station building and cycle north. At Ostpreussendamm we cycle to the left. Unfortunately there is no cycle path here, but the stretch is not that long. We are rewarded for our pain when we turn left onto the cherry blossom avenue at Paul-Gerhardt-Strasse. The cherry blossoms were already slightly wilted, but no less beautiful to look at.

While there were all sorts of day-trippers on the footpath in the middle, we were able to cycle comfortably on the asphalt path to the right. After about 1.5 km we turn right into the small, tranquil settlement of Sigridshorst. We cycle to the end, then right and immediately left again onto Sigriedstrasse. At the end we turn left onto Mahlower Strasse. Of course, cycling next to a Brandenburg country road is not so great, but the cycle path was excellent.
Always straight ahead and after the motorway junction we turn right onto Marienfelder Allee and then left again behind the factories. At the end of the road we turn right. Again, no cycle path, but very little traffic. We pass the tranquil village of Kleinbeeren and turn right onto the road to Großbeeren. The views of the surrounding fields and meadows make my city-dwelling heart beat faster.
After entering the town we pass a roundabout and then Diedersdorf Castle comes into view and is impossible to miss. The many cars in the parking lot put us off a bit, but when we got to the site we found the beer garden only half full. Yay!
The grounds around Diedersdorf Castle are very extensive. There is a hotel, a beer garden, two restaurants, playgrounds and a small shop. There are many hiking trails around and, if you book in advance, you can take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the fields and meadows of Diedersdorf. The beer garden serves hearty food, cakes and ice cream, as well as all kinds of drinks.
After a break and refreshment with cake and coffee, we took a different route back to Lichterfelde. We rode back to Chausseestraße and turned right at the roundabout. After a few meters you will see the Diedersdorf Spargelgut on the left . If you like, you can take a break there. We rode straight ahead on a cycle path next to a country road.
Behind the country road and the town of Birkholz, it became a beautiful cycle path across fields and meadows. It was wonderful to cycle. At the end we came out onto the Berlin Wall Trail again and followed it to Jenbacher Weg. Turn left here and right again on Osdorfer Straße back to the S-Bahn station.
A really nice, relaxed bike ride with lots of greenery, nature and a wonderful place to stop.
